Participants should become acquainted with the advanced concepts and techniques in quantum nanooptics.

The lecture will cover the following topics: propagation of light in free space and near materials (focusing limits, evanescent fields, etc), propogation of light inside dielectric materials (photonic crystals), macroscopic quantum electrodynamics (quantization of the EM field in the presence of dielectric media), and vacuum forces (Casimir force between macroscopic objects, Casimir-Polder force between an atom and a macroscopic object, and van der Waals force between two atoms).

Previous knowledge of theoretical quantum optics.
