- automated forecasts applying statistical postprocessing to output from numerical weather prediction models
- how to handle forecast uncertainty: ensemble forecasts and their verification
- analysis and forecast of mesocale weather phenomena (convection, winter precip, fog, foehn) using appropriate tools (limited area models, objective analyses, radar, satellite, webcams, traditional observing system)
- applying knowledge to case studies
