Students will have in-depth knowledge and gain comprehensive insights into different areas of human thought, experience and behavior. You can understand, scrutinize and evaluate the genesis of this scientific knowledge. It is possible for them to differentiated apply this knowledge to a variety bio-psycho-social phenomena.

In this advanced course, essential models and theories to describe and explain the relationships between mental and neural processes and structures are treated. Based on the historical development of theoretical concepts such as of holism and localizationism their meaning is explained within the view of current neuropsychological research. Important neuropsychological models and theories (eg modules, neural networks) for recognizing objects and faces, to recognize the emotional expression, to retain and recall of events and objects, as well as for language and consciousness are presented and discussed on the basis of individual research publications. Finally, the interdisciplinary concept formation in theoretical neuropsychology is analyzed, and potential prospects for an integrative theory are pointed out.

Advanced course with interactive work in small groups; papers and discussion of topics in plenary; final seminar paper.

Examinations using continuous assessment based on regular written and oral contributions from the participants.

Scientific papers will be announced in the advanced course.
