Prerequisites: The learner can introduce himself/herself and others and can answer requests on personal details and can communicate in a simple way.

Goal: At this level the learner can understand everyday expressions and simple sentences aimed at the satisfaction of simple needs of a concrete type, e.g. in the areas of shopping, in a restaurant, orienting yourself in a town, understanding invitations if the other person is sympathetic and speaks slowly and clearly.

Topics:
in the town/in the country; at the market; in a hotel; the weather; Arabic proverbs; habits and family structure

Linguistic Goals:
to describe situations; to express opinions/likes and dislikes; to comfort somebody; to express worries/ sympathy; to accept/turn down something; to inform yourself about people or objects; to discuss a text

Structural Goals:
tasrif (present tense conjugation) - to talk about actions of the immediate present; declination; syntax; imthal wa hikam (idiomatic use of language) - to use the sentence models in communication

interactive language instruction
written and oral midterm test (testing of writing, listening and reading comprehension) and final test (testing of writing, listening and reading comprehension and speaking/dialogues)
