Presentation and discussion of advanced questions in epistemology, with an emphasis on philosophical aspects of empirical methods in science and social sciences.

Detailed discussions of inductive logic and the foundations of statistics.

Discussion of inductive logic and probability as a basis for formal methods in epistemology. Introduction to Bayesian epistemology with reference to further philosophical subdisciplines.

Lecture with discussion.

Written examination with exercises.

Ian Hacking: Introduction to Probability and Inductive Logic; Cambridge UP 2001.
