The aim of this course is to discover texts in French and in Spanish which take place in Cuba and evoke the turbulent history of the island. Hereby questions of auto- and hetero-perspective, of aesthetics and ideological standpoints shall be discussed. At the end of the course, students should have a balanced knowledge of the history and the culture of Cuba.

Students should choose one of the following texts which will be the basis of their personal work during the term. Their choices will be discussed in the first two sessions and arranged in a chronological order so as to form a reading program that makes sense.
