Theory an Practice of "Political Correctness" in Language and Culture.

After discussing concepts and terminologies we will study phenomena of "Political Correctness" in media and politics (e.g. taboos, manipulation, propaganda) and in everyday life (e.g. talking about women, homosexuality, foreigness, Aids).

3 procedures:

1) Weekly plenary meetings (seminar room) for about half of the sessions. Study of the theoretical basics fot the student papers (partly presentations by the teacher, partly short presentations by the students). 2) Individual appointments in the teacher's office to discuss the topics for the students' papers. In the first phase discussion of topic, literature, corpus and structure. In a later phase discussion of the prepared handouts and presentations. 3) blocked sessions on one or two days: presentations of the papers.

 A select bibliography will be handed out at the beginning of term.
