This course will cover the theoretical and practical basics of translation.

We will analyse and translate a range of different types of texts, focussing on translation techniques, language transfer strategies, research tools and error analysis.

Regular preparatory assignments; comparison and discussion of translations in class; practice of translation techniques.

Mid-term test and final test; continuous evaluation

Handouts, bibliographies and translation assignments will be provided in class.

Participants must have successfully completed Compulsory Modules 4 (English II) and 12a (German for Native Speakers: Text Analysis and Competence I).
