Practice of scholarly working methods, the use of secondary literature and training of skills allowing to present and discuss the newly-acquired knowledge and related problems in oral or written form.

Based on the syllabus of contemporary history teaching in Austrian public schools, students will identify fields of knowledge they will have to teach in school and then research the appropriate and up-to-date scientific literature for these topics and discuss its suitability. They will resume the most important questions, facts and discussions pertaining to these topics and will finally sketch a schedule for a survey course of the 20^th century – everyone being responsible for a certain part including the necessary documents (papers, maps, documents etc.) and the general outline.

Readings, oral presentations with handout, written paper, discussions, formal lecture, exercises.

Course with continuous performance assessment: attendance at all sessions, active participation in discussions, oral presentation, written paper (10–15 pp).

Guided research of selected literature will be part of the assigned tasks.

Enrollment in course 622.005 (UE WA ) in which the topics can be discussed more profoundly is strongly advised.

Due to substantial differences in the allocation of ECTS-Credits in various curricula (teacher training programs/specialized degree programs), the requirements for this course vary. Information will be provided by the instructor at the beginning of the course.
