The course is conceived for beginners in Arabic preferably with a background knowledge in another Semitic language. The object is the Classical Arabic in its written form. Learning objective is a solid knowledge of the grammatical structure of the language that qualifies for a dealing with primary texts from the classical Arabic literature.
The grammatical structure from a Semitist perspective is central. The instruction is less conversation oriented but aims at hard philological knowledge. A solid basis of important vocabulary paves the way for any further engagement in the language.
Vocabulary test (written 10 min.) at the middle of the semester; exam (written 20 min.) at the end of the semester.
