Widening the comparing historical focus on territories which are commonly on the margin seen from a central European perspective.

When it comes to the Scandinavian countries, we usually think of the vikings in the middle ages or Gustav II Adolf concerning the Thirty Years' War and the protection of the Protestants in the Holy Roman Empire. However, apart from that, what do we know about the territories behind these "export hits"?

In this course we will compare different developments and phenonemons of early modern times within the Holy Roman Empire with such ones in the Scandinavian countries. The choice of the different aspects will consider the participants' interests.

Lecture, discussion of articles, to some extent presentations of the participants.

Alternatively a presentation (the text must be handed in afterwards) or an essay of ten pages.

Will be discussed in the first lesson.
