The aim of this course is to encourage analytical and close reading and to introduce the basic conventions of good writing techniques. Students will practice composing well-structured and varied sentences, summary writing and elementary paragraph production.

Focus on topics such as syntax, sentence structure and punctuation, paragraph writing and summary writing.

a) intensive study of texts for structural elements

b) analysis of student-written paragraphs

c) simple summaries

Course Assessment: regular written work

Final written tests of reading and writing skills
