Travel and Adventure in Italian Literature from Dante to Tasso (Lecture):

In the centre of interest will be the spatial concept of literature, focalizing on two important topics of narrative literature, travel and adventure.

Beginning from the astonishing journey to the hereafter described by Dante Alighieri in his "Commedia", four other important milestones of travel and adventure literature in Italy will be considered: Boccaccio with "Filocolo" and some tales of "Decameron"; Pulci with "Morgante"; Ariosto with "Orlando furioso; and Tasso with "Gerusalemme liberata".

Some important theories of space will be discussed and applied to the examined text: Lotman, Bachtin, Certeau and Foucault.

There will be a final test at the end of semester, but also everyone's active participation during all the sessions will be part of the assessment.

A bibliography will be fournished at the beginning of semester.
