This course allows you to improve your receptive language skills (basic objective: to achieve B2 level according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages).

In this course, we will work with written and spoken texts in order to improve your reading and your listening comprehension, to develop your vocabulary and to make you familiar with typical text structures. We will also deal with strategies for the efficient use of different translation tools and aids such as dictionaries, the World Wide Web, etc. Therefore this course allows you to implement learning techniques that will help you later on to have a professional approach to your source texts in translation and interpreting.

Your individual preparation for this course will allow us to organise interactive and efficient classes that leave room for discussions, questions, remarks and ideas. Self-study will allow you to enhance your knowledge of the topics dealt with in class. Of course, you can also discuss any questions with me outside class.

Written tests.

You will receive all information about relevant literature as well as worksheets, source texts, etc. (files, copies or master copies - any copy costs will be collected at the end of the semester) in class.

Attendance of the first lesson is a pre-requisite.

To participate in this course, it is necessary that you have already passed the language classes French, level I, or that you have been placed directly in level II (according to our "SNE"-test). Please don't forget to bring along a confirmation of your successful participation in these pre-requisite courses in our first lesson.

21/10: no class; compensatory task: participation in presentation of "ERASMUS PLUS" (15th of october, 7:00 pm, SR1).

This course has to be combined with the courses number 613211 and 613212 (altogether six hours of course per week).
