This course explores contents, attitudes and methods of Global Education theoretically, for personal development and for teaching practice. The course tackles the ever more increasing global complexity recognizing that everyone is part of these global processes in everyday life. In this course teacher students from Austria and Korea will work together and explore GE concepts and methods bases on a participative learning approach.

The following questions describe the contents of the course: • What is meant by GE? • What different kinds of approaches concerning GE do exist and what does each one of us understand by GE? • How to define and explore our own entanglement in power relations a global society? • What are the key competences we want to impart in/with GE? • How can we achieve empowerment of young people to take action within the frame of GE? • What are useful methods linking formal and non-formal learning in GE? • How can GE look like in the classroom or in extracurricular projects within the frame of non-formal learning?

Based on interactive learning sessions, approach to scientific literature, self reflection, group discussions, theoretical input, group work, regular reflection sessions and visits of NGO´s working in Tyrol in the field of Global Education (for example: Südwind Tirol) the main topics and learning methods of Global Education (GE) shall be approached. Through interchanging individual experiences the seminar wants to detect differences in/of our understanding of GE and find common aspects and potentials for learning practice. In doing so, the group could pay special attention to the diverse contexts of the students (esp. Austria and Korea) and aim to facilitate exchange as this is one of the greatest potentials of learning within international exchange programmes. There is not only “one truth” about global issues and the power relations shaping them. Current challenges are neither stable nor consistent and we are part of them in everyday life. The reflection of our own position and entanglement in power relations within a global society is therefore a key to find our own attitude to learn and to teach in a global society.

• Reading and preparing papers for discussions • High participation in interactive learning sessions and group work • Preparation and presentation a GE-project for implementation in groups (for the classroom or extracurricular learning)
