Training to become competent professionals in the field of pharmacognosy fosusing on Phytochemistry and Phytopharmacology. Students acquire specific knowledge on selected natural products of plant origin, herbal medicinal drugs, and some poisonous plants.

General: Primary and secondary metabolism

Herbal constituents: carbohydrates / isoprenoids / phenolic compounds/ alkaloids

Pharmacognostic basics of herbal medicine: herbal drugs used to treat diseases of the heart and cardiovascular system, neurological, psychological and psychosomatic disorders as well as herbs with antitumor and immune enhancing effects.

The focus is on medicinal drugs listed in the Austrian and European Pharmacopoeia.
