Discussion of the development and the transformations of the standards of scientific rationality in the history of science from antiquity to the present. Specific attention will be paid to possible lessons for contemporary debates on the future directions of science.
On the basis of T.S. Kuhn's paradigm-based account of scientific development we will try to gain an improved understanding of how a distinctively scientific method has developed and changed over the course of history. We will also discuss in somedetail the relation between science, art, and technology.
