After successfully completing the course, participants shall have acquired advanced methodical skills in planning and doing empirical research in the field of sociology.  

Modern societies are characterised by several individualisation processes, both in the context of work (e.g. precarious employment, increasing mobility and flexibility) and life (e.g. changing, fragile family structures). These changes produce societal challenges challenges. Additionally to traditional social risks, such as unemployment or illness, which are usually publically secured, new social risks, such as shortages in childcare, arise.

In the research project we will investigate the relationships between individual work- and lifes situations and the public offer, in particular in relation to child care?

How is child care organized and which decisions underlie these arrangements?

To what extent are individual decisions (e.g. for labour market participation) influenced by the current offer of child care?

Is there a need for extending the current provisions?

In order to answer these questions we will use both qualitative and quantitative methods. The results will be summarized professionally and presented publically.

Discussions, mini-lectures, small group work, interviews and quantitative surveys, internal and public presentations, written reports on the results.

Participation in both group- and plenary work, presentations, written reports. Details will be provided during the course.
