The goal in this part of the course is devoted to issues in economic methodology. In particular, given that a good part of the academic literature in financial economics deals with formal models, the focus is on different aspects of models, such as the role of theoretical models in acquiring understanding of economic phenomena, the discussion on the realisticness of assumptions, and the pitfalls and problems in the application of formal models.

For achieving the learning outcomes, the content of the seminar is structured in three main parts: (i) Principles of economic methodology, (ii) Discussion of models and model assumptions, (iii) Case studies of models in modern financial economics.
