Students recognize knowledge and innovation as a critical organizational resource to achieve sustainable competitive advantages. They know the tools for doing a knowledge audit. Students learn how to support processes of organizational learning. Because they understand the ways how tacit and explicit knowledge can be exchanged among internal and external partners, students are able to create contexts that facilitate the sharing and diffusion of knowledge. The students improve their ability to assess, select and apply analytical tools. They enhance their problem solving and decision making capabilities as individuals as well as in the role of team members. Communication and presentation skills are trained. Students can communicate their acquired knowledge to specialist and nonspecialist audiences. They are able to reflect the social and ethical implications of knowledge and innovation management decisions including gender issues.

Internal and External Innovation/Knowledge Networks 6. Knowledge and Innovation Creation in Value Webs 7. Virtual Customer and Community Integration 8. Implementing a knowledge management project in organizations 9. Resistance to Innovation and Change Management 10. Knowledge audits
Instruction, mini research projects, reading assignments, student presentations Knowledge is gained by individually studying assigned literature as preparation for in class discussion. Information inputs are also given through short lectures during contact hours. The content of those inputs as well as the master thesis’ proposal of the students will be intensively discussed in the plenary. Mini research projects, which are prepared individually or in groups not only demand the students’ ability to integrate acquired knowledge. Students also need to search for and select relevant data sources and data. The presentation of material analyzed and condensed in a self-directed manner enhances the communication skills of the students who receive intensive feedback by their teachers and peers. Beside the ability to critically reflect concepts, tools, and values underlying research decisions social competencies are trained in study groups during the entire module.
