Practical Philosophy 2: Suicide. Considerations on how to free an eerie subject from taboos
SE 2

Preparation of a differentiating and critically reflected access to subjects as liberty, autonomy, philosophical anthropology, life in a philosophical and sociocultural view; methodical and systematic development of relevant problems on the basis of specific texts by means of critically philological proceedings as well as such of conceptual history and conceptual criticism.

As a subject of philosophical research suicide seems to be better avoided, and if this is not possible, only treat with a certain feeling of shudder and in the hope that there might not be any contact with people at risk of committing suicide. In contrast we shall try to develop a critical look at this subject, at first glance a very eerie one. In doing so it has to obverved that the appraisal of that topic has to do a lot with cultural and legal parameters as well as with social taboos. Not least of all there is to consider the possibility that the idea of being able to finish the own existence in some respect might be of some relevance for possibilities of humans freedom of decision-making and autonomy (in terms of self-determination). The fact that there is or may be political or social pressure to commit suicide does not necessarily  conflict with this consideration. It only suggests that simple answers are useless especially in this context.
