Knowledge about theories and methods of sociolinguistic field research. Ability to plan, carry out, analyze and reflect a peace of fieldwork.

Ability to critically handle and reflect different research methods.

Language is present in public space as well as in public discussion.

With methods of sociolinguistic fieldwork the members of the seminar will investigate the presence of written language in public space (linguistic landscaping), perception and attitudes towards language(s) and varieties.

Presentation, preparatory reading and discussions , 1-2 (short) presentation(s)

Oral and written: preparatory reading, active participation in class, 1-2 (short) presentation(s); written exam (mid term), term paper
