608036 PS Text Analysis and Interpretation
summer semester 2016 | Last update: 21.12.2016 | Place course on memo listReflective methodological treatment of literary texts and creation of a well-founded understanding of text with significant examples
1946, in issue 1/7 of the cultural review "Plan", Ilse Aichinger's essay "Aufruf zum Misstrauen" (appeal to distrust) was published. This short text is symptomatic for the then younger generation of writers: Literature and its established protagonists have disgraced themselves thouroughly during the Nazi era. In addition, after 1945, women had to cope with the gender model of National Socialism, which shaped the after-war society for decades to come. The short prose of austrian women writers produced between 1945 and 1970 reflects both. In the centre of our course are texts from Ilse Aichinger, Ingeborg Bachmann, Marlen Haushofer and Christine Lavant, but also from today nearly unkown, like Gertrud Fussenegger with her National Socialist past, or Hilde Spiel, the remigrate, or Jeannie Ebner, an influencial editor of literary magazines.
