The workshop presents from various interpretative vantage points the Nibelungenlied – one of the most important works of the German Middle Ages – and considers its pre-Christian Germanic heroic motifs as well as its medieval and modern adaptations.

 

Reading, linguistic and structural analysys of the Nibelungenlied, discussion of research problems.

Group work, lecture, oral presentations.

Oral presentation with handout, about 30 min., written essay (about 15 pages), active co-operation.

Students will be informed about further publications at the beginning of the workshop.
