622015 Region and History II: From the Bomb Attacks to the Boom Years of Autonomy: South Tyrol 1957-1988, the Rise of a European Region
summer semester 2016 | Last update: 13.07.2016 | Place course on memo listImparting of basic knowledge concerning the local history of the province of Südtirol; sensitization for questions regarding local as well as regional history.
The lecture is dedicated to the Autonomous Province of South Tyrol in the basic phase from 1957 to 1988, starting with the crisis of autonomy until the end of the era Magnago. This period of some 30 years is marked by political and social crises, by the attacks and acts of terror around 1960 up to the extension of self-government after the adoption of the Second Autonomy Statute of 1972. The course analyses in detail the relationship of South Tyrol with Rome and Austria, the autonomy process, its central figures, but above all the extensive social and cultural transformation of this small region in the heart of the Alps. The goal is to establish a new image of South Tyrol, which reveals the complexity of the development beyond "diplomacy and terror" of the different economic, social and linguistic groups as well as the cultural dynamics or aspects of spatial, environmental and sports history. The course also deals with interconnections and compares South Tyrol with the Trentino or the Austrian Province of Tyrol as well as with other European areas.
