Acquiring reading comprehension skills regarding historical documents and secondary literature on Austrian history and reflection skills regarding methodical questions. Acquiring knowledge of an important era in Austrian history. Training in teaching research results.

Focusing on Austro-Hungarian countries and Bohemia, and based on selected topics, issues and problems regarding shared rule as well as opposition of rulers and diets from the late Middle Ages up to the end of the Ancien Regime (with excursions into the 19th century) will be dealt with.

Topics will be introduced in lectures; essays and sources will be analysed in group work; and presentations will be given by seminar participants.

 

Seminar participants will be required to attend lectures, actively participate in discussions, do tasks individually and in groups, present one topic (and prepare a handout), and write a paper (15 pages).

Due to substantial differences in the allocation of ECTS-Credits in various curricula (teacher training programs/specialized degree programs), the requirements for this course vary. Information will be provided by the instructor at the beginning of the course.
