summer semester 2016 | Last update: 22.02.2016 | Place course on memo listThe students should have understood the fundamental properties of cold, degenerate quantum gases. They should be able to independently employ theoretical methods for their description.
Theoretical background to Bose-Einstein condensates in dilute gases and their properties, including microscopic models, atomic scattering properties, Bogolioubov theory of the weakly interacting Bose gas, and Gross-Pitaevskii theory. Applications to description of ground-state properties, elementary and topological excitations. We will also cover atoms in optical lattices and strongly correlated lattice models. Connections to current experiments will be drawn throughout.
Continuous assessment (based on regular written and/or oral contribution by participants).
Course examination according to § 7, statute section on "study-law regulations"
Will be discussed in the first lesson.
The language of the course (English or German) will be decided at the beginnint of the first lecture.
