Students understand the qualitative and quantitative thermodynamics of real systems and know the concepts of statistical thermodynamics.

Use of thermodynamic tables for the calculation of real systems, irreversible cycle process and real efficiency, determination of irreversible entropy, 3rd law of thermodynamics, application of activity and fugacity to real systems, equations of state of real gases, Joule-Thomson effect, thermodynamics of real mixtures, interfacial equilibrium, surface tension, wetting phenomena, thermodynamics of surfaces, equilibrium shape of crystals, the interfacial tension of multi-component systems. Microcanonical ensemble, Boltzmann equation, canonical ensemble, the partition function and free energy factorization of the partition function, Boltzmann distribution, chemical equilibrium, quantum statistics.
