An Understanding of Early Christian Self-Perception

Us and Them -

A mirror reflects only the inverse of its subject.  You see something different to what others see of you. Likewise, with one’s personality, there is often a considerable difference between how one is seen by others, and how one sees oneself.

Christian communities, and indeed all religious communities, will see themselves in a particular light, and rarely does this compare with how they are viewed from outside.  Study of the texts and principles involved in religious self-perception allow insight into the ways in which communities define themselves as a distinct group.
