Students acquire knowledge about core theoretical approaches in gender studies to the topic of sexuality with a particular focus on questions in educational science. Students can situate sexualities in historically changing social contexts and critically analyze issues of power and normativity. Against this backdrop, students acquire factual and reflexive knowledge about historical and present ways of dealing with sexuality in education.

How are gender roles and specific notions about sexuality interconnected? What do norms of sexuality have to do with social power relations? And: how do these questions relate to pedagogy? This course presents central theoretical approaches to the study of gender and sexuality. Upon that, the complex and contradictory relation between pedagogy and sexuality is presented.

Historical as well as present pedagogic approaches to sexuality are discussed and their implications for gender relations are analysed. This shows, that pedagogy does not exist detached from social relations of power, but that it partakes in their reproduction as well as their transformation.
