·         name  basic terms of text linguistics

·         name and apply methods of text linguistics

·         describe results of text linguistics

·         independently analyze written forms of expression based on criteria of text linguistics

The course introduces to the field of textlinguistics and provides an overview of aims, research questions, methods and outcomes of the discipline. We will deal with questions such as: What is a text (and what is not)? What are the characteristics of different text types? How are texts related to social practices? What is the benefit of a linguistic analysis of texts?

We will investigate the relations between text structure, text function and social practices by focussing on texts in every-day life. Dealing with linguistic aspects of texts in every-day life in their presentations and term papers, students will gain a better understanding of the field of textlinguistics, but also on how to integrate these issues in contexts of teaching and learning.
