This seminar will examine major recent television series in the United States that have brought about a paradigmatic shift in serial narration, including Dexter, How I Met Your Mother, Breaking Bad, Homeland, True Detective, Bloodline, House of Cards, Fargo, Orphan Black, Modern Family, Scandal, American Crime, The Good Wife, Veep, The Blacklist, Mad Men, Community and Orange Is the New Black.
Short lectures, group discussion, presentation.
An essential part of the seminar is the compulsory attendance of the AAAS-conference America Through the Small Screen: Television and Its Transformations, November 11-13, 2016. https://www.uibk.ac.at/amerikastudien/AAAS2016.html
This conference substitutes the seminar sessions from December 2016 onwards. Last Seminar session is in November 2016.

For the Diploma Program (Diplomstudium: 343): SE2: American Literature/Culture, for the Teacher Training Program (Lehramtsstudium: 344): SE2: American Literature and Culture.
Due to substantial differences in the allocation of ECTS-Credits in various curricula (teacher training program - BA/MA English and American Studies), the requirements for this course vary. Information will be provided by the instructor at the beginning of the course.
