In the 1920s and after the break down of the Soviet Union the city of Berlin is one of the major destinations of Russian emigrants. Many poets are among them. The course will provide a deeper insight into the Russian Berlin as it is depicted in literary texts (written for example by Cvetaeva, Ėrenburg, Nabokov, Šklovskij, Veremej as well as into literary conceptions of space and the narrative and poetical devices of writing the exile.
The course might be complemented by an excursion to Berlin in the following summer semester (2017).
Presentations by the participants and the lecturer, open discussion, teamwork in groups.
Regular and active participation, presentation in class, small written sample (minutes, essay or similar).
