Developing a basic understanding and specific advanced knowledge of the lectures topic.

Curating contemporary art is a central field of the applied science of art. It puts existing methods and perspectives to the test, but is also looking for new formats, models and theories in close collaboration with the ever developing contemporary art. The lecture provides an insight into the geopolitically and historically divergent development of the exhibition as a medium since the 1960s and reflects on the theoretical foundations of the curatorial production and mediation of knowledge generated through contemporary art. The students shall acquire the knowledge to realize, analyze and challenge the intentions and perspectives underlying an exhibition.
