Competency-based Language Teaching: Pragmatics and Sociolinguistics

Students learn how to teach Russian in a competence-oriented manner and are taught to prepare their lessons, exercises and tasks in such a way. They experience how to make use of textbooks and other materials when focusing on pragmatic and socioliniguistic phenomena.

Sociocultural and pragmatic phenomena of Russian, which are relevant for teaching on CEF levels A and B: linguistic markers of social relations; politeness conventions; functions of language: addressing people you know and strangers; accepting and declining invitations (e.g. for dinner); greetings; the use of idioms and phrases which make communication and comprehension on levels A and B possible or easier. Developing of teaching concepts and lesson plans.

Interactive, cooperative and problem-solving

Attendance is compulsory; conitnuous assessment: 3 minor tasks to be prepared at home, 1 oral presentation, 1 written paper (15 pages).
