Didactics of History, Social and Political Studies: Competence-oriented History Lessons and achievement tests in graduating classes in secondary-schools in South Tyrol (Italy)

Students deal with the requirements of the framework and recognize the methodological and didactic challenges, which are necessary for the preparation of the final state examination.

Part 1 of the course includes a brief theoretical introduction by the lecturer by which students get an insight into the subject "History Teaching in the final year of high school". In the 2nd part of the course they create concrete lessons, which are followed by a reflection in the plenary. 

 

 

Presentation of theoretical fundamentals and of concrete examples of teaching by the lecturer; Planning, preparation and presentation of lessons by students, where great emphasis is placed on performance and evaluation. The questions are intended to include all possible areas of competence (according to the competence model of Peter Gautschi). The methodological and didactic history lessons and the competency-based performance review are deepened through discussions in plenary. 

 

The final grade is composed of the performance ratings in terms of active participation, smaller exercises and the result of the written final exam. In the final exam the students must be able to create a possible methodical-didactic way of a lesson and must develop competence-based questions. They have to justify their theoretical knowledge.
