winter semester 2016/2017 | Last update: 22.12.2016 | Place course on memo listThe students have a good overview on images of women and men and their potential living situations and on gender relations in different time periods and cultural contexts als well as on critical reflections made about measurements to improve women's situations. They know the historical and actual perspectives of women's studies, feminist studies, and gender studies. They can deconstruct processes of engendering that have already happened and develop a sensorium for real and potential gender discrimination.
After focusing briefly on the situation of women of the Greek and Romain ancient world statements of women of the Middle Ages and Early Modern Times dealing with their situation are presented. They are also analyzed considering their historical context.
Beginning with the time of the French Revolution, theoretical concepts of and critical discussions with the situations of women and gender relations are analyzed. During the last third of the course, the focus lies on approaches to women's, feminist, and gender studies, their theories and methods since the 2nd half of the 20th century.Interactive lecture with the possibility of discussion.
Written exam at the end of the term.
