After this seminar you will understand the principles of disability studies. You will have an idea how "being handicapped" constitutes a biography. You will have developed necessary didactical skills to teach and handle disability in your forthcoming career as a teacher.

This seminar introduces into the principles of disability studies, a new subject in the historical field. We will discuss the academic fundaments of the subject and write a history of disability in Austria from the 1950s to the 1980s. For this purpose you will interview people with special needs, debate the current development with a government minister and his managing director in charge and we will attend a conference about the didactics of disability.

Oral Presentations; Studies of Academic Literature.

Written and Oral Exams.

Studies will be delivered in first meeting.

Pass of the course "Introduction to Civic Studies".
