Students who have completed this module should understand the topics covered in the lectures, and be able to express and apply them. They should be able to independently acquire similar knowledge and have a basic understanding of semantic systems.
Ontologies, which are consensual specifications of knowledge in a particular domain, form the backbone of the semantic web. Important topics covered in the lecture are: representation mechanisms (like RDF, OWL and SWRL) for data, meta-data and
ontologies in the semantic web; different reasoning techniques based on description logics, logic programming and first-order logic for retrieving, filtering and combining information on the web.
Lecture, assessment is based on a single examination at the end of the course.
Course examination according to § 7, statute section on "study-law regulations"
Will be discussed in the first lesson.
