705737 Quantum Optical Implementations of Quantum Networks
winter semester 2016/2017 | Last update: 23.02.2017 | Place course on memo listThe students will gain an overview to the topic of quantum networks, their most important applications and to current quantum optical realisations. The students should acquire the skill to apply the theoretical quantum optical methods that are introduced in the lecture.
Quantum optical implementations of quantum networks
The lecture provides an introduction to applications of quantum networks and their realisation on quantum optical platforms. The topics covered in the lecture include implementations of quantum memories and interfaces based on atomic ensembles and the realization of quantum gates using trapped ions. In this context, we will also discuss current experiments. The lecture will also cover protocols that are important for realising quantum networks (such as schemes for distributing entanglement, teleportation and for quantum error correction) and their implementation as well as specific applications (such as secure quantum communication, quantum cloud computing, and quantum voting).
Oral exam
Will be discussed during the lecture.
