717047 Evolution of Algae
winter semester 2016/2017 | Last update: 21.02.2017 | Place course on memo listThe participants have basic knowledge about the evolutionary ecology of algae and the impressive ecophysiological diversity. The important groups can be ecologically assigned.
Algae constitute a heterogeneous group of primary producers, which occur in all habitats and dominate in extreme environments. The various evolutionary lineages will be introduced according to their morphological, ecophysiological and genetic characters and the ecological adaptations will be explained. The current or geological significance of individual algal groups for aquatic or terrestrial ecosystems will be documented.
