The participants learn to conduct empirical research, including the development of a research question, the elaboration of links to prior research, the formulation of research questions and/or hypotheses, and the development of an appropriate research design.

Participants select a research question (preferrably in the area of personality, emotion, social, or music psychology). They elaborate a suitable research design, and particularize procedures and methods. Subsequently, they carry out their research, analysze the data, and present their findings. During all phases of the research process, the lecturer will offer advice and support. The fixed weekly schedule may be relaxed in favor of a personalized supervision schedule as the term progresss. Participants are expected to engage with their research in a consistent and self-responsible manner. In the course of the research seminar I, the emphasis is on the review of the literature, the particularization of a research question, the planning of the research and the beginning of the data collection.  In the research seminar II the emphasis will be on completing data collection, data analysis, data presentation and interpretation, as well as on the writing process.

Presentations by the lecturer in class, mostly about topics and and methods relevant to conducting empirical research. These are alternated by discussions and oral presentations by the participants in group and/or individual meetings

Continuous assessment based on regular written and/or oral contributions from the participants.
