720201 Specific Scientific Methods in Psychology: Introduction to R
winter semester 2016/2017 | Last update: 13.02.2017 | Place course on memo listStudents develop an advanced understanding of fundamental concepts of inferential statistics. They get acquainted with R in practical exercises and are able to conduct essential statistical analyses.
This courses is aimed at students interested in putting the statistical software R to practical use. This course is just right for you, if you (a) have a basic understanding of the concepts of descriptive and inferential statistics as taught in the study of Psychology (no need to be an expert or nerd), (b) wish (or do not resist) to develop an advanced understandig of these concepts, (c) are willing to learn a programming language (R) with an explicit focus on conducting statistical analyses. In the lecture part of the course, we'll recapitulate basic concepts of inferential statistics (e.g. central limit theorem and standard error, type I and II error, statistical power, effect size, additive and multiplicative effects). The exercise part will take place in a computer room (possibly in groups, depending on participants), where the techniques of statistical data analysis with R can be learned in a number of modules and fostered by practice.
Oral presentations by the lecturer, discussions, practical exercises in R
Exercises and final written examination
will be specified during the course
