Students will have in-depth knowledge and gain comprehensive insights into different areas of human thought, experience and behavior. You can understand, scrutinize and evaluate the genesis of this scientific knowledge. It is possible for them to differentiated apply this knowledge to a variety bio-psycho-social phenomena.

The development of modern brain sciences, especially in the 1990s led to a reawakening of interest in the exploration of human consciousness. This contributed greatly to the current establishment of a “Science of Consciousness”. Starting with an overview of current approaches to consciousness research, multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary, experimental and theoretical studies are discussed in the seminar in detail. Issues, methods and results of different research approaches will be accurately compared and discussed. Finally, it should be clarified whether an integrative approach to consciousness research is possible in the new “Science of Consciousness”.

Seminar with interactive work in small groups; papers and discussion of topics in plenary; final seminar paper.

Examinations using continuous assessment based on regular written and oral contributions from the participants.
