The objective is to provide an introduction into the basics of structural design. The course will provide historical, cultural and contemporary techical facts about building design. Designing and building a structural bearing model will provide insight into structural building processes.

The lecture covers the following topics: form and structure, history of building materials, basics of static design and structural bearing design, building requirements, building envelope requirements, development and construction of bearing structure, laboratory tests and analysis

presentation with power point, simple calculation exemples on the board, artisanel exercises by modelling in groups of 3 or 4 students.

 The évaluation will be based on the handcraft exercise and on a written examen testing general contents.
