This course is connected to to the lecture “Gender and Law” (Diploma Programme Law / individual field of concentration / course number 323 390). The aim is to deepen the theoretical discussion about the impact of gender issues within legal discourses.

 

Individual work and plenary discussions of selected items of legal gender studies: based on fundamental questions of gender equality and difference and the respective impact on law we will discuss the question of how law produces social gender relations.
Some topics: feminist legal theories, the dilemma of difference, chances and limitations of norms to promote antidiscrimination and positive discrimination of women, interaction between law and gender specific living conditions on the basis of selected areas within the Austrian legal system.

Text readings and discussions, oral presentations, group work.
