Understanding the socio-cultural context of violence and gender; learning about approaches to prevention, intervention, and work with victims and perpetrators.
Daily yet hidden is physical, mental or psychological violence in all walks of life. In different areas of work or in private life we are confronted with it, asked about our position or called to act.
In the seminar we will
- look at the different situations of children, women, men, and dependent people affected by violence;
- in particular address the abuses in ecclesiastical contexts;
- investigate the relationship between gender roles and violent behavior;
- learn about facilities for victims of violence and their families as well as possibilities for prevention and intervention;
- learn about the legal framework;
- look at different concepts of violence and power as psychological phenomenon with its underlying socio-cultural and religious factors;
- gain a theological-ethical approach to violence in the social environment.
Introduction to the subject; research; independent acquisition of the issues by the participants; presentations, discussions.
Active participation, oral presentation, written seminar paper.
