The course should enable the students to form a critical judgement referring todays widespread prejudice that religion ist the (main) source of violence.

Religiously motivated terrorism is one of the most dangerous challenges that our world faces today. Which theoretical approaches help us to come to a better understanding of the relationship between terrorism and religion? In which cases can we recognize an abuse of religion? In which way contribute religions to terrorism and how do religions stand against it?
