Systematic discussion of B. Lonergan’s theological method and its applicability.
Few theologians have developed a method for the whole of theology. The Canadian Jesuit Bernard Lonergan (1904-1984) is the exception. He offered a theological method, which is based on basic operations of the process of human understanding and promises to be applicable to the whole of theology. Lonergan envisions eight basic methodological steps for this endeavor. Lonergan’s attempt to include the theologian and his/her subjectivity in this process and by doing so to ensure the academic validity of this enterprise makes it an intriguing and challenging one. In the seminar the participants will analyze and discuss the fundamentals of Lonergan’s Method in Theology.
