Legal consultation of asylum seekers to acchieve practical knowledge of the Austrian Adminstrative Law

Students consult and represent asylum seeker during the asylum procedure

The seminar starts with an introduction to the asylum procedure. The duties of the students are e.g. the attendance at interrogations at the federal authority of immigration and asylum, attendance at hearings at the federal administrative court, meeting with asylum seekers, preparation of legal documents and remedies etc. During the seminar students participate at the drop-in-hours at the Independent Legal Consultation (Monday 4pm – 6pm, Thursday 10am – 12am, Bürgerstraße 21). Additionally, in the context of regular reflexion meetings students present their cases and discusses legal issues.

Students are expected to produce one written statement. It is possible, as well, to elaborate on a legal issue. This paper is the base for the mark of the seminar. Moreover, at least one participation at interrogations at the federal authority of immigration and asylum or hearings at the federal administrative court is compulsory.

After the successful attendance a certification of the seminar will be issued together with a certification of the Independent Legal Consultation.
